Islam
-believe there is no other God than theirs (Allah)
-followers of Allah exist to follow and serve their god
-prophets include Abraham, Moses, and Jesus
-holy book called the Qur’an
-Muslims are obligated to follow the Five Pillars of Islam:
1.belief
2.worship
3.charitable giving
4.fasting during the month of Ramadan (sawm)
5.the pilgrimage to Mecca (hajj) at least once in a lifetime.
-The pilgrimage of Mecca is very honored in the Muslim community
-two denominations of Islam
*Suni (90%) and Shia (10%)
Eastern Othodox Christian
-Officially called the Orthodox
-2nd largest Christian church in the world
-One teaching that it is the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church established by Jesus Christ and his followers
-Goal of Orthodox Christians is to continually become nearer to God throughout their life. This is called theosis or deification
-The Biblical text includes Greek Septuagint and the New Testament. This includes the seven Deuterocanonical Books
